I had just moved into my new house with a backyard that bordered a national forest. I was unpacking the kitchen boxes looking out the window staring at the trees and the children riding their bikes down the path that led into the forest. The sun was shining and I so did not want to be inside putting things away.

Throwing my hands up in exasperation, I went upstairs to the bedroom and changed into my running clothes. What the hell, I might as well go for a short run before I went insane. Grabbing my cell phone, canteen, CD player and a power bar, I headed out the back door toward the path that lead into the woods. There was a bench at the entrance where I stretched all those muscles that need that kind of thing, and a map showing the route the path took through the forest.

I put my headphones on and switched on the music. The crashing sounds of Jimmy Hendrix cascaded into my brain as I started on my run. The path was wide and covered in crushed gravel. The running was easy to start as the path was on the flat. With each stride, I was deeper into the forest, the cool shadows inviting as the sun dappled path continued.

Rounding a bend in the path I was suddenly presented with a fork, to the left the path went deeper into the forest. To the right it skirted around the edge of the woods with a small pond on the right. Today I chose the path to the right, as there was a cool breeze off the lake. I finished my run right where I started, at the bench where the path came out of the woods at my backyard. In all I had run about four miles.

I stopped at the map to check where the left fork in the path went but there was no path shown on the map. It must be an old path that is no longer used, I shrugged my shoulders and headed into the house to shower and finish my unpacking. The day was fast becoming night and I had a lot to do.

I continued unpacking the kitchen stuff and around midnight I stopped and went to bed. It was my first night in my new house and the sounds were strange. I had trouble getting to sleep, there seemed to be this bush that keep brushing up against the bedroom window with every little breeze. Nothing ominous, just somewhat annoying, I would have to take care of it tomorrow.

The alarm was beeping at me, turning over I looked at the damn thing. It said four o’clock, what the fuck. I hit the snooze bar and flipped the alarm off, rolled over and tried to go back to sleep. I could have sworn that I had not set it or turned it on when I set the time.

Sleep was hard to come by as the bush outside the window kept rubbing against the house. Definitely would have to do something about that tomorrow.

I woke with the sun shining in my eyes. Looking at the clock, I was shocked to see that it was ten-fifteen in the morning. The unpacking, my run and being awaken at four o’clock in the morning must have really taken it out of me. I got out of bed, stretched and headed to the bathroom. After a shower, I felt wonderful. In the kitchen, I poured myself a bowl of corn flakes and sat at the breakfast table gazing out the French doors at the woods bordering my backyard. As I watched, several people went by, either running or biking. One young lady slowed down as she went by looking at the back of the house until she was out of sight in the woods. I knew she couldn’t see me inside, so I was wondering what she was trying to see.

After finishing my corn flakes, I started to unpack my knick-knacks in the living room. I had finished the kitchen yesterday and the only rooms I had left were the living room and my office. The computer and desk were all set, in there all I needed was to unpack the books and reference material that went on the bookshelves.

I had bought this house a few months back. First off, I had gotten a good deal second I really liked the location, the fact that the back of my property abutted a national forest and that on either side of me the houses were set farther forward in their lots. True, my backyard was on the small side compared to everyone else’s, but I had this huge front yard that had a semi-circular driveway through it. The garage was in front of the house to the left side, the driveway went straight into it with a by-pass to the left that went down to the street.

The front of the house was different from all the others in the neighborhood. I think it was the first house built before the land was subdivided into smaller lots. The rest of the houses in the area were smaller and set farther up in the lots with the garages in the backyard. This reminded me I still had the garage to straighten out, shit!

Finishing the living room, I went into my office to start to unpack the books and such. Half way through my stomach started to grumble. Looking at the time I saw that it was now two o’clock in the afternoon. I had eaten four hours ago I shouldn’t be hungry yet. Grabbing a power-water out of the fridge, I contemplated going for a run. Nope, better look at that bush outside the bedroom window first.

Throwing on a light jacket, I went out the French doors and around the corner of the house where my bedroom was located. I found my window and stood there scratching my head. The bush was nowhere near the window it wasn’t tall enough to reach the window no matter how strong the wind blew. Then what had been rubbing up against the window? Looking around I spotted a branch, it must be from one of the trees out back. It may have been caught in the bush and rubbing against the window in the wind. What I couldn’t figure out was how it had gotten there in the first place. This side of the house was quiet a ways from the woods, so unless someone had placed it there, I just didn’t see how else it could be here.

Looking toward the back of the yard, I decided to take another run. Changing into my running clothes, I grabbed my running accessories, water bottle, CD player, power bar and cell phone. Stretching at the bench, I looked at the paths. Even though the left hand fork wasn’t on the map it did appear, it would cut straight across the woods shortening the run by a good mile and a half.

I headed out, trotting down the crushed gravel path into the sun dappled shade of the woods. Today I was listening to Eric Clapton as my feet pounded along the path of stone. I came to the fork in the path, taking the left one without losing a stride. The woods were a little thicker here and not much sun was coming through the canopy above. The shade was cool and refreshing as I trotted on. The path started to take a turn to the left, a slow gentle turn. Continuing on I could see that the path widened significantly up ahead. All of a sudden, the path ended, it ended at a cul-de-sac. In the middle was a bush in full bloom. The bush was just short of being as tall as I filled with the most beautiful pink and white flowers. The smell was incredible, sweet yet soft, not overpowering. The trees above had parted in such a way to allow a stream of sunlight to bathe the bush in its golden light. It was the most incredible sight I had ever seen.

Stopping, I took a drink from my bottle and fetched my power bar from my pocket. There was a little bench around behind the bush. I took a seat and just gazed at the bush as I ate my power bar, taking a swig of water between bites. A gentle breeze stirred the flowers on the bush, wafting the pleasant smell around the clearing. I first noticed the quiet as I finished my power bar. The stillness of sound was so abrupt. The rustling of leaves was a muted background noise to the utter stillness in the clearing. It was as if all the sounds not connected with nature had been blotted out of existence.

As my eyes drank in the beauty of the blooms on the bush, my mind drifted to this morning and the young lady who had stared so intently at my house as she had jogged past. The curve of her cheeks, the bounce in her dark blond hair, the flex of the muscles in her thighs and her incredible buttocks, I shook my head to clear it of those thoughts. I mean I didn’t even know her name or where she lived, she was very pretty though.

Taking one last swig of water, I got up and headed back the way I had come. I waved a little good-bye to the bush that stood there all alone in the clearing. I now understood why the path wasn’t on the map, it didn’t connect to the other paths, so to a runner or biker it was useless except as a rest stop, a very beautiful rest stop, quiet and out of the way of the general bustle of the park, those who ventured down the path would only know it.

When I returned home, I showered and went to the garage to tackle the mess there. It took me the rest of the afternoon to get the things straightened out just to be able to begin to create some semblance of order. Standing there, sweat dripping down my face, I looked over what I had done. Enough of that for the day, the sun was setting and there was a chill in the air. Closing the garage door, I headed into the house to shower again and fix some dinner. I decided that the rest of the night I would relax, watch a little news and then get to bed early.

As I sat in the kitchen eating I noticed the blonde I had seen this morning, she was walking a dog, well not really walking the dog, as playing with the dog. She had a dog toy in her hand and the little terrier would jump up and try to take it from her as she held it just out of reach. Then she would toss the ball ahead of them. The dog would run like crazy to fetch it back to her. She then tossed it farther than she had previously as she was standing at the border of my backyard. The little dog ran off to fetch the ball, while she stood there staring at me. She could see me now as I had the kitchen lights on.

A chill run up my spine as she stared into my eyes. She was over a hundred feet away and although I couldn’t quite make out her eyes clearly, it appeared that she could see mine, as she stood there staring and smiling. She was very pretty her smile seemed to brighten my whole backyard. Just as I was about to turn away in embarrassment the dog returned with the ball, drawing her attention away from me. I watched as she walked away with the dog jumping around trying to get the ball from her hand. As she was about to pass out of sight into the woods, she stopped and threw the ball ahead, turn toward me and smiled. At least I think she smiled, she was quite far away at the time.

I sat at the kitchen table pondering what had just happened. Did she know who had lived here before me? Why was she staring at me whenever she passed? Again, a chill ran up my spine. I shivered, although I was not cold. Why was she so interested in me? At least it appeared to me that she was. Was I just being paranoid?

I cleaned the kitchen and headed off to bed, tomorrow was my last day to unpack the house, I would need to get up early. I was free Friday, Saturday, Sunday with Monday being the first day of spring I wasn’t supposed to start my new job until next week but I thought I would drop by the office to get all those little thing that need to get done so I could start my first day up and running so to speak.

Dropping my robe to the floor, I crawled into between the cool sheets, turned off the lights and closed my eyes. The house was silent as I lay there slowly drifting off to sleep.

I woke again to a noise I couldn’t quite place. Sitting up in bed, I looked around and thought I saw a shadow of someone pass by my window. Getting out of bed, I flipped the shade up and peered out into the darkness. Nothing. I crawled back into bed and attempted to get back to sleep. I lay there listening, listening for any sound outside my bedroom window.

I woke with a start, remembering what I thought I had seen last night. It was morning, eight o’clock in the morning to be exact. I sat up on the edge of the bed staring at the clock on the nightstand. I felt terrible. My throat was scratchy and my nose was all dried out. I would have to see if the furnace was equipped with a humidifier or go out and by one for the bedroom at least. Getting up I went to the kitchen, got a glass and filled it with chilled water from the water dispenser on the fridge.

I immediately felt better as I drank the water. All of a sudden, I heard a barking dog. Looking out the French doors to the path behind my backyard, I saw the cute blonde and her dog standing there looking at me. The curtains were drawn back and the shears were pulled back. It was what seemed like an eternity before I realized that she could see me standing there in all my naked glory.

Smiling at her, I finished my water, set the glass down, turned and walked out of the kitchen looking her in the eye and smiling. Once out of sight I laughed aloud as I returned to my bedroom to get dressed. I was surprised to see that I had an erection as I sat on the bed to pull on my shorts. I finished dressing and returned to the kitchen to make myself some breakfast.

The blonde was now gone as I looked out the windows, eating, into the backyard of the house. I finished my breakfast, stacked the dishes in the sink and went out to the garage to finish unpacking. The air was cool and the sun bright as I labored in the shadows inside the garage. I was startled by a single woof from a dog. Looking out of the garage door the blonde and her dog were standing there staring at me with wide green eyes.

“Oh, hi. I didn’t hear you come up!” I cleared my throat and stood there with sweat dripping off my head and down my chest.

“Hi!” Her smile was breathtaking. “My name is Tera!” She said holding out her delicate hand.

“I’m Jeff.” I stammered back, walking to her and taking her hand gently in mine. Up close, she was unbelievably beautiful, her skin looked soft and silky. Her body seemed even tighter close up, her muscles toned and supple. She had a perky nose that was just right for her face. Pulled back in a ponytail, her blonde hair was mottled with darker blonde hair.

We stood there holding onto each other’s hands, staring into each other’s eyes. My hand started to sweat and I pulled it away and wiped it on my shorts. She was amazing, standing there in shorts and a tank top, sans bra. I quickly brought my eyes back up to hers clearing my throat. Her smile was beaming.

“When did you buy the place?” She asked without hesitation.

“A while back, I had to clear up some things back in Seattle before I moved in here.”

“Oh, Seattle, nice town, I have a sister that lives there. Don’t get to see her very often.”

“I want to apologize for this morning. If I had known you…”

“Don’t worry about it. I shouldn’t have been staring into you house like I was.” She didn’t seem embarrassed at all. “It’s just that this house reminds me of the house I grew-up around, in, I mean in.” Now she seemed embarrassed.

“Would you like a tour?”

“No, no thanks, I have taken enough of your time. You probably have a lot of unpacking to do still.” She was backing away as she spoke.

“No, really. This is the last of it.” I indicated the box at my feet which was really only filled with junk I probably wouldn’t use. “I would be honored to show you around, Tera.”

Smiling, she stopped, opened her mouth to speak, closing it without uttering a word. She looked around up at the sky, nodding her head yes.

“Ok, you talked me into it.” Stepping out of the garage, I took her hand and led her to the front door. As I opened the door, she poked her head in looking around with her pretty green eyes wide with excitement. You would think she had never seen the inside of a house before.

As we walked through the house, me explaining to her, she was quiet except for the occasional gasp or little ‘eek’ that escaped her throat. As we came to the last place on the tour, the kitchen she squealed with delight at the view of the backyard and the woods beyond.

“You have a lovely view here!”

“Yes, it is one of the things that drew me to the house, along with the national forest behind my property, I like green.” I smiled at her as she stared wide-eyed out the windows. As she stood there, transfixed by the sight before her, I took the time to check her out further. She had a great body perfect was the word that came to mind. She was also excited her nipples were pushing out against her tank top. Her hands were drawn up, rubbing her tight stomach as if she was in pain.

“Are you alright?”

“Yes! Yes I am!” She spun toward me smiling, extending her pretty hand out to shake mine. “I want to thank you for the tour of your lovely house. It has been quite an experience for me. Thank you.”

“You are quite welcome, Tera.” She started to walk back to the front door. “Here, why don’t you go this way?” I indicated the French doors in the kitchen. She looked at me inquisitively, until I walked over and opened them.

“How wonderful!” She squealed and lunged toward them with glee. Stepping out into the backyard, she spun in a full circle, staring up into the sky. “What a beautiful place.”

“Thank you.” I watched her with some confusion.

“Well,” she faced me again stuck out her hand, “thank you again. Maybe we could go for a walk sometime. I usually start mine at about nine in the morning.”

“I would like that very much!” I smiled as I shook here hand. We stood there again, staring into each other’s eyes. She had these fantastic green eyes, in which I could definitely get lost.

Pulling her hand away, she spun and headed off in the direction of the woods. As I watched, her little dog appeared on the path to greet her. She stooped down and took the ball he was caring and tossed it down the path for him. She turned and smiled, waving goodbye as she trotted down the path after her dog.

I stood there in the back yard for the longest time just staring at the woods where she had disappeared. Shaking my head, I headed back into the house to fix lunch. Damn, I should have invited her to stay, maybe next time. After I finished eating, I went back to the garage and finished unpacking.

With everything unpacked and put away, I had time to take an early afternoon run. Gathering up my stuff, I headed out the back door to the path. Today I went the opposite way around the woods so the path leading to the beautiful bush would be my last stop on the trek around the park. The run was uneventful very few people were out this early in the afternoon. As I came to the path leading to the bush, I turned in slowing a little to take in the beauty of the area. As I rounded the last bend in the path, I slowed to a walk, gazing at the wonderful flowers on the bush.

I flopped down onto the bench, placing my water bottle to my lips and drinking, all the while staring at the magnificent flowers on the shrub before me. I sat there for the longest time with the vision of Tera running through my mind. She had to be one of the loveliest women I had ever met. Pictures of her flashed into my mind, as I sat there admiring the pretty little bush. Tera was pretty, pretty as this lovely bush before me. Now why did the comparison pop into my head? Taking a last swig from my water bottle, I got up and headed down the path toward home.

The next morning I was up, showered, shaved and dressed, ready to meet Tera out on the path behind the house. The morning was beautiful, the sun was shining, the temperature cool. At five to nine, I went out the French doors to the path behind the house to wait for Tera. She was just coming out of the woods when I arrived at the path. She waved to me as she approached.

“Hi Jeff. Did you sleep well last night?” Tera asked as she stopped before me.
